Online Retail Sales Are On The Move (Upwards!)

In good news for the retail sector, the latest  NAB Online Retail Sales Index shows that online sales are finally on their way up again. 

The data also reveals that Australian retailers are outperforming their international counterparts, growing at a much faster rate.

Further proof of the domestic online shopping trend is seen with the announcement from Bunnings that it is launching an online store.

The Growing Importance of Online Retail 

The NAB Online Retail Sales Index also revealed that year on year growth is up to 8.3%, with growth across all eight retail categories. 

Furthermore, Australian Bureau of Statistics figures from April this year revealed that online sales in Australia are currently sitting at around 9% of traditional face-to face shopping.

“Up to $1 in every $10 spend in retail in Australia now comes from online sales, with double-digit growth in the sector pushing total annual sales towards a $30 billion market.”

The growing importance of online retail is further seen in the rate Amazon Australia has grown in less than two years, increasing their range to 125 million products over 29 categories, and launching a series of aligned services such as Fulfilment By Amazon, Amazon Global Store, Amazon Launchpad and Prime.
