How Much Do Google Ads Cost in Australia? 2026 Guide | Webics

If you have ever Googled “how much does Google Ads cost” and come away more confused than when you started, you are not alone. The honest answer is: it depends. But that is not helpful on its own, so here is a practical breakdown of what Australian small businesses are actually paying in 2026, what we charge, and what makes the number go up or down.
How Google Ads Pricing Works
Google Ads runs on an auction system. Every time someone searches for a keyword you are targeting, Google holds a real-time auction to decide which ads show, and in what order. You are not buying a fixed spot, you are bidding for attention.
You only pay when someone clicks your ad, which is why the core metric is Cost Per Click (CPC). The price of each click depends on how many other advertisers want the same eyeballs, how relevant your ad is to the search, and how good your landing page is. That last point matters: Google rewards quality. A better landing page experience can actually lower what you pay per click.
What Is the Average CPC in Australia?
Across all industries, the average CPC on the Google Search Network in Australia sits around $3.81. That said, the range is enormous. Some industries pay under $2 per click; others pay well over $15.
Here is a rough guide by sector:
- Trades and home services: $6 to $9 per click
- Legal: $15 to $20 per click
- E-commerce and retail: $2 to $4 per click
- Beauty and hospitality: under $2 per click
- Financial services: can exceed $20 per click
For local service businesses on the NSW South Coast, such as plumbers, electricians, builders, or healthcare providers, CPCs typically land somewhere between $5 and $12 depending on how competitive that category is in your area. Regional markets like Nowra tend to be less contested than Sydney, which can work in your favour.
What Monthly Ad Budget Do You Actually Need?
A budget too small means your ads run out of money mid-morning and you miss the rest of the day’s searches. Too large without proper campaign structure and you are just burning money faster.
The ad spend the wider market tends to recommend looks like this:
- Low competition, regional market: $1,000 to $1,500 per month
- Moderate competition, services: $1,500 to $3,000 per month
- High competition or metro areas: $3,000 to $8,000 per month or more
These are ad spend figures, meaning money that goes straight to Google, and they are what most agencies will quote you as a starting point. We set our own floor lower than that, and I will come back to why.
The principle behind all of them holds either way: you need enough budget to collect meaningful data. If your daily budget cuts out after 10 clicks, you cannot make informed decisions about what is working.
What Does Management Cost on Top?
This is the part almost nobody publishes, which is exactly why it is worth saying plainly. Australian agencies commonly charge $800 to $2,000 a month to manage a Google Ads account, or take 10 to 20 percent of whatever you spend.
Watch that second model carefully. A percentage fee pays your agency more every time your budget goes up, which is a quiet conflict of interest at precisely the moment you need honest advice about whether to spend more.
What Webics Charges
We publish our Google Ads pricing rather than quoting it privately. All figures exclude GST, on a minimum of 3 months so the campaign has time to work, then month to month with no cancellation fees. Your ad budget stays separate and is paid directly to Google.
Starter, $399 per month. Setup from $513. A Search campaign with up to 5 ad groups, strategic keyword research, monthly optimisation and monthly performance reports. Built for tradies and service businesses with fewer than 2 staff. Minimum workable ad budget $500 a month.
Standard, $499 per month. Setup $825 to $1,125. Up to 5 campaigns and 10 ad groups, weekly optimisation, one display ad set, plus monthly reports and account manager updates. For businesses with 2 to 10 staff. Minimum workable ad budget $1,000 a month.
Advanced, $699 per month. Setup $1,650 to $2,250. Up to 10 campaigns and 20 ad groups, weekly optimisation, display and remarketing, and Google Shopping. For established businesses with 10 or more staff. Minimum workable ad budget $2,000 a month.
Our entry management fee is half the bottom of the range agencies typically quote, and our top tier still sits under it. Two things make that possible, and neither is cutting corners.
Our fee is fixed and never moves with your ad spend. Not a percentage, not a sliding scale. You pay the same whether you spend $500 a month or $5,000, so the only reason we would ever suggest increasing your budget is that the numbers say so.
We build and host the website the clicks land on. On most accounts the landing page is a separate quote from a separate supplier, and the campaign sits waiting while somebody builds it. Because we design and build the website too, the whole funnel is one team and there is no double handling to pay for. Dedicated Google Ads landing pages start at $450, or $1,490 for a fully custom one.
That $500 ad budget floor on Starter is deliberately below the $1,000 the market quotes for a regional campaign, and it is a real floor rather than a marketing one. A Shoalhaven Search campaign is not a Sydney one: fewer advertisers in the auction, tighter geographic targeting, and phrase and exact match keywords doing most of the filtering before you pay for anything. If we look at your market and the maths does not work, we will tell you the budget is too thin rather than take it.
What Affects Your Google Ads Cost?
Several levers directly influence how much you spend and how much value you get from it.
Quality Score. Google grades each of your ads on relevance, expected click-through rate, and landing page experience. A higher Quality Score lowers your effective CPC. This is why sending all your traffic to a generic homepage, rather than a specific landing page, tends to cost you more.
Keyword match types. Broad match keywords reach a wide audience but also attract unrelated searches. Phrase and exact match keywords are more targeted and often more efficient, even if they have a lower search volume.
Ad scheduling. Running ads 24 hours a day is rarely right for a service business. Scheduling them for the hours your customers actually search and call stretches the budget significantly.
Negative keywords. These tell Google what not to match. Without a solid negative keyword list, you can end up paying for clicks from people who are nowhere near ready to buy, or not in your service area at all.
Geographic targeting. Tightening targeting to your actual service area stops you paying for clicks from people you cannot serve. For a Nowra business that means the Shoalhaven LGA plus nearby postcodes, not all of NSW.
Is Google Ads Worth It for Small Businesses?
Google Ads can generate leads quickly, which is its biggest advantage over SEO. When a campaign is well-structured and pointed at the right audience, it often delivers a strong return. When it is not, the meter still runs.
The businesses that see the best results from Google Ads generally share a few traits: they have a clear service offer, a decent website that converts visitors into enquiries, and they track their results properly. If your website is broken or your contact page is hard to find, Google Ads will not fix that.
